Facts

In February 2026, Luxembourg took a significant humanitarian step by donating 114 humanitarian demining kits and 33 generators to Ukraine. This intervention was driven by the ongoing crisis caused by the extensive contamination of Ukrainian territory with mines and explosive remnants of war, as well as Russia’s systematic targeting of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. The deliberate destruction of energy facilities, combined with the harsh winter, had left many regions without electricity, heating, and access to essential services, exacerbating the suffering of civilian populations.

The humanitarian demining kits, each designed for one deminer, are crucial for the detection and remote neutralization of mines. This donation, the second of its kind following a previous contribution of 110 kits in 2024, aims to reinforce Ukraine’s mine-action capacities. By providing these tools, Luxembourg is helping to reduce the daily risks faced by civilians in their homes, fields, and vital infrastructure, ultimately saving lives and restoring a sense of security.

Additionally, the 33 generators—30 smaller units for household use and 3 high-capacity units for critical infrastructure—are intended to strengthen the resilience of communities affected by power cuts. These generators will provide essential electricity, ensuring that hospitals, schools, and other critical facilities can continue to operate even in the face of prolonged outages.

The formal handover of this equipment took place on 5 February 2026, in the presence of the Embassy of Ukraine in Luxembourg. All the equipment was transferred to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), underscoring the importance of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian crises.
