Facts

After Tropical Cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka, the country’s authorities turned to the Union Civil Protection Mechanism for urgent international assistance. Their request focused on securing shelter and essential household items for families displaced by the cyclone. The Disaster Management Center, under the Ministry of Defence, specifically sought family tents, bedding, and basic household equipment to strengthen national relief efforts and aid those most impacted.

Luxembourg responded to this call through its Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs and the emergency.lu initiative. The country provided a targeted in-kind donation, which included family tents, kitchen sets, sleeping mats, and foldable beds with mattresses. These supplies were sourced from humanitarian stocks in Pakistan, China, India, and Luxembourg, showcasing a collaborative international effort.

The shipment was substantial, comprising 55 qubic meters of family tents, family kitchen sets, sleeping mats, and foldable beds and mattresses.
