Facts

When Storm Éowyn struck Ireland on 25 January 2025, the country faced widespread power outages, severe wind damage and disruptions to critical infrastructure. The National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management (NDFEM) activated European support channels to stabilise essential services, submitting a request through the CECIS platform for five power generators to assist with emergency electricity needs in storm‑affected areas.

Responding through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), Luxembourg offered one of its registered CECIS assets: a 65 kVA diesel generator sourced from emergency.lu humanitarian stock.
